"Having sought the support and permission from Bobby’s family at the wake following the funeral, within days, I sat down at my keyboard, as I have done so often over the past few years, having written five previous books on the history of the club that we all love, including my last book on my very first football hero, Derek Kevan, aka ‘The Tank’ and the words just started to pour out of my very soul for the ensuing five months or so.
All profits at the request of the family to go to the ‘Stroke Association’ to support the essential work that they do in the treatment of such a disabilitating illness.
The book has been a ‘labour of love’ without doubt and I have spoken to some fabulous people about their memories and their history with Bobby, with regards to his careers at West Brom of course, Birmingham City, Sheffield Wednesday, Bromsgrove Rovers, Burton Albion, Scotland and not forgetting Bobby’s time ‘over the pond’ in the United States at Philadelphia Atoms and Dallas Tornado. The bonus is, I have learned so much, about Bobby’s life that I did not previously know and it has been a privilege.
The book will be exactly the same ‘coffee table’ format as ‘The Tank’, lavishly illustrated from all eras of Bobby’s dazzling football career, covering his appearances at all levels of the beautiful game, including of course his goals, and heart wrenching, funny and extremely warm eulogies from friends and family of the man who was truly, “The Prince of the Beautiful game.”
