CYRILLE REGIS - WORKING CLASS HERO

Cyrille Regis – Working Class Hero follows the life and times of one of the most prolific and loved footballers of all time, who was sadly taken from us in January 2018 - just a month short of his 60 th birthday.

This is author Laurie Rampling’s eighth ‘solo’ book, covering the history of his beloved football club West Bromwich Albion, and perhaps the most poignant of those already written, due to his close friendship with fellow southerner Regis, a friendship that followed a chance post-match meeting with Cyrille on the platform at New Street Station, Birmingham back in 1978 and a shared journey home talking with the man who would become his friend for life.

Since Cyrille passed away, Laurie has spent a lot of time working with Otis Roberts, the shining light of the ‘Jason Roberts Foundation’ - a charity based in Harlesden, Brent in West London, a charitable organisation fronted by Cyrille’s nephew Jason, but very much run by Otis and of course the good people of Brent, who have now taken Laurie into their hearts, and it is for that reason that Laurie feels quite appropriately the proceeds of this book on Cyrille, ‘one of their own,’ should go the charity that Cyrille himself inspired as a trustee when it was formed.

Laurie himself admitted: “I am extremely moved by the warmth and humanity of all at the foundation, and when my publisher Stuart Curtis asked me to write this book, there was only one charity that I wanted to donate to.”
